Designing a new structure to support innovative strategy
Human Resources thus played a fundametal role in developing the new organisational structure of the group, which was implemented from 1 January 2007. The work of redesigning the main processes and activities of our fine chemicals and pharmaceutical businesses to enhance their focus on their respective markets, while leveraging the resources needed to compete successfully, involved the following:
1. Separating our fine chemicals and pharma businesses by founding two independent new companies.
2. Migrating towards a “flat” organisational structure in which our parent company provides the overall strategic leadership and coordination for all our wholly-ownedsubsidiaries, Pharma - now Zambon SpA, Fine Chemicals - now ZaCh System SpA and Z-Cube, together with the partly-owned subsidiary DOC Generici.
3. Centralising the competencies for running certain mainly administrative operating processes that do not have a direct impact on the businesses in a single service company, to avoid structural duplication and unnecessary increases in the costs of our individual operating companies.
The criteria for the formation of this company were therefore to:
- Provide the services selected to our Italian group companies at market cost on the basis of Service Level Agreements
- Prepare the organisation to consider extending this support to other group companies, particularly in Europe.
The service areas coordinated by Human Resources cover payroll, labour costs, industrial relations, compensation and benefits, all of which were measured, confirming their efficiency in relation to external benchmarks for staff managed per FTE.
